We love it when an upgrade comes into the ether which is intended to make our lives easier and Google My Business users are in luck!

Google has recently made Google Posts accessible for small businesses which will appear within both Google maps and Google search results. It’s free publicity, and will get your website more clicks, so why wouldn’t you utilise it?!

What does it look like?

Here’s a quick look at how we’ve utilised this feature:

The Benefits:

So, why else should you be adding Google posts to your Google My Business Account? Simply put, it gives your site more opportunities to raise your profile in order to sell or encourage new business.

You can:

  • Showcase your businesses favourite products.
  • Outline promotions and deals.
  • Share upcoming and notable events.
  • It allows a one click button to “reserve”, “sign up”, “buy” or “get offer” without having to trawl through your site and overlook this important information. It’s a fast-track to your prominent information.
  • Used well, it can increase your engagement massively.

The Downside:

  • Only two posts can be displayed in the viewer – even if more than that exist.
  • The posts themselves expire after a week so you must constantly update them to ensure that they are still featuring.
  • You’re only allowed to use 300 words within your posts so you might have some cutting down to do!
  • You can only include one featured image.
  • Formatting your post isn’t possible. Making it bold or including bullet points, etc. just isn’t possible so it might not look perfectly ‘on brand’.

How to upload your Google Posts:

  • Log into your Google My Business Account
  • Click on Posts within the dashboard on the left hand side

  • Choose a call to action e.g. Learn more
  • Preview your post to make sure that it’s perfect
  • Publish your post
  • Google your business to check that those changes have taken affect
  • After 7 days your post will expire so repeat this process and upload another

Is this new feature worth staying on top of

We think so yes. Getting users to click through to your website from search results is how you get more eyeballs on your site that lead to sales and enquiries, so this feature is a nice introduction.

The fact that posts expire after 7 days could actually be a good thing, with Google clearly trying to encourage business owners to keep the content they use for posts to news, special offers, events and new products.
