Find out how we created a bespoke, mobile-friendly, ecommerce website for one of Dorset’s leading attractions inside Moors Valley Country Park.
The Moors Valley Railway, inside Moors Valley Country Park, asked us to redesign their website so they could better promote their steam and diesel railway, promote their engines, and also sell tickets to their events. Their previous website wasn’t mobile-friendly and with the majority of website visitors using their mobile devices to find local days out, this was costing them visitors.
We started from the ground up, designing a completely bespoke look and feel for the new website. Taking the brand colours and spectacular promotional video supplied to us, we put together a warm design that draws you in and allows you to discover all that this attraction has to offer.
Below, you can see the homepage design with the video below the header and then visual cues to each of the main sections of the website as you scroll down the page. The header and navigation follow the user down the page as they scroll to make navigating to new pages quick and easy. This is also the case on mobile to save users scrolling back to the top.
The events page (shown below) is accessed via an events calendar, and allows the users to read a summary of the event, see ticket prices and add the necessary tickets to their cart, paying for them all online. Once the purchase is complete a confirmation email and an email containing the users tickets is sent out, so they have them ready for their visit.
Adding and managing events is a breeze, as everything is controlled within the WordPress/Woocommerce admin area.
As Moors Valley Railway is an attraction, being able to access information about finding it was of really high importance for visitors. We created a simple page with directions, a location map and contact form that provides users with everything they need to get to the attraction easily.
Another feature of the site is the page showcasing all the locomotives. Essentially a gallery, this allows the user to browse photos organised into albums for each locomotive and it allows Moors Valley Railway to update the photos and keep them fresh over time.
From analysing Moors Valley Railway’s existing website analytics we knew many users would be browsing on mobile devices, so as with any project we work on, careful consideration was given to how the site would adjust for people browsing using these devices, ensuring that they could browse the site and book tickets quickly and easily.
The new ecommerce website was built on WordPress and Woocommerce, which makes it simple for the client to make changes and updates and add news to the site with ease.
Events are easy to manage and add, and Moors Valley Railway can effectively manage their entire online operation quickly and easily moving forward.
We worked with Will and the Authentic Style team to design and build an all-new website for us. They immediately understood our requirements and from the initial designs we were excited about the end product. The whole process was efficient and managed professionally. Will and Authentic Style are highly recommended.
