Why we love blogging (and you should too!)

Blogging used to be an activity reserved almost exclusively for teens who were obsessed with pop culture, fashion or makeup. But the truth is, there is a whole lot more to this tactic which could benefit your business no end. Here’s why you should be utilizing this technique in your business…

1) Google loves freshness

Since the Penguin and Panda update, Google has been paying more attention to those businesses with a blog (and thriving social media accounts). This is because Google loves fresh content! A vibrant website, with new pages and updates done on a regular basis, will be seen as more authoritative compared to a website with little or no fresh content. If your site or blog is updated regularly, the search engine spiders will crawl your site more regularly – you’ll be on their radar so to speak.

2) It can save you time

Regardless of what industry you’re in, you probably get asked lots of questions. Blogging can be a great way to save time as you can address the FAQs in blog posts, then you can send your curious customers to the blog – as it’ll have all the answers to their questions!

3) It’s a great way of picking up new customers

How many times have you bought an expensive piece of technology without first checking the reviews from bloggers? If you’re anything like me – you like to see what real people have to say about a product before you buy it. Chances are, that your business could benefit from a little blogging love. You could write how to’s, in-depth description about your product, or you might even consider getting a major blogger in your niche to test out your product or service and publish a review – not only will this give you an insight into how you could improve your offering but you could also tap into a new base of potential fans and loyal customers.

4) It’s an awesome way of building links and social media clout

When you offer value, people share it. Hint: especially if you’ve got a great style of writing, and are on target with your target market’s needs / interests. If people find that you’ve got killer content, they’re sure to share it with their colleagues or friends. One of my clients set up a blog and started creating high quality articles and how to’s, it was through using this tactic that he managed to connect with one of his biggest clients. Not only was he able to score a nice sale (£******), but his customer’s employees regularly check his blog for new information, proving that blogging is a valuable technique if you get it right.

5) You become an expert in your field

This point is pretty self explanatory. Take Martin Lewis for example: he’s the ‘money saving expert’. He has a website where he blogs regularly about a range of topics from insurance and phones to travel and motoring. He offered valuable info for his audience and was able to position himself as an expert in his field. He set up his website in 2003 for £100 and in 2012 sold it for £87 million. Still think blogging is just for pop culture obsessed teens? Nope! Those are just a few of the benefits of blogging. A key point to remember is consistency – if you’re going to write once a week or month, stick to it! So, there you have it – a few of the reasons we love blogging so much.
