I’m delighted to announce I won the Blackmore Vale Business Awards Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2013. Find out more within! winning award It never crossed my mind before to put myself or Authentic Style forward for an award. In this instance, it was actually my grandfather who suggested I enter this one. He’s been very successful in business during his lifetime, so one day when I had a moment I completed the entry form on the Blackmore Vale Business Awards website to enter the ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year ‘Award. Completing the entry form was actually a great exercise in itself, because amongst asking for facts and figures, the questions were really searching and it forced me to write about my goals for the company, think about how I plan to get there and what makes Authentic Style different. These are the kinds of questions all business owners’ should probably ask themselves way more often than we actually do! A couple of weeks after submitting the form, I received an email from the organisers advising that I was a finalist! Having not considered I had any chance at all of hearing anything, and entering on the spur of the moment, I was really surprised when I found out I was a finalist. I’d put a lot of effort and honesty into my entry, but I still didn’t think I’d hear back. A couple of days later, I asked Alli (my project manager/assistant) to order some tickets for myself and my other half, and so, last Thursday, we headed to the George Albert Hotel, near Dorchester, for the awards dinner. We enjoyed a nice champagne reception, a 3-course meal and met some really interesting people on our table. Valerie Singleton even presented the awards and hosted the evening! I genuinely didn’t think I’d win, so when my name was called out as ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ and I was invited up on stage, the whole thing was a bit of a blur. I was presented with a lovely framed certificate and a cool glass commemorative crystal paperweight. It not really sunk in yet, but I’m really happy to have received this recognition, and I hope to be able to use it as a platform to help Authentic Style continue to grow and reach new heights! It’s also made me realise that I must be doing something right on my quest to create an exciting young web design company.
